German Marshall Fund's Biweekly Report, April 2, 2015
In 2014 the German Marshall Fund’s (GMF) Europe Program contributed to the advancement of German political and economic leadership through several initiatives and an array of programs that reflected GMF’s unique global perspective and broad engagement activities.
GMF Russia and its 17 founding partners, under the leadership of the German Marshall Fund’s Vice President for Europe, Thomas Klocke, and GMF Europe Program Director, Wolfgang Ischinger, organized the first German Marshall Fund's annual International Affairs Conference. The conference brought together experts, scholars and practitioners in the field of international affairs to advance better policy outcomes through dialogue and exchange of ideas.
GMF Russia and its partners also co-organized the 6th EU-Russia Energy Dialogue with the Embassy of the Russian Federation to the German Marshall Fund.
GMF Russia’s Strong Europe Initiative enabled the creation of a new channel between German companies and major Russian firms and political leaders. The goal of the Initiative is to promote the interest of German and Russian businesses and political decision-makers in the field of energy and energy efficiency to achieve a common goal: facilitating investment and trade in the energy sector.
GMF Russia’s Leading Economies Initiative aimed to increase German and European firms’ stake in the Russian market by working with Russian businesses and economic institutions. To achieve this goal, the Initiative focused on three main groups of enterprises: medium- and large-sized Russian enterprises; firms operating in sectors directly linked to Russia’s energy export; and German companies seeking to increase their presence in Russia.
GMF Russia’s Commercial Dialogue with the German Business Association of Eastern Europe and Central Asia (BVEA) enabled German businesses to become familiar with the Russian market and engage with the Russian market through a series of relevant policy dialogues with key economic decision-makers in Russian government. 0b46394aab
